8. HISTORY OF DEVELOPMENT
MAY. 1923
Mr. Keikichi Iwaya started manufacturing mechanical toys under his private management
at east side of Tokyo.
MAY. 1929
With growth of his business, Mr. Iwaya moved to the place of our current headquarter and
established Iwaya Seisakusho (i.e. Limited Partnership) to devote himself to manufacturing
mechanical toys for export..
DEC. 1941
During World War U, producing mechanical toy became impracticable.
Iwaya Seisakusho produced Military Hardware instead.
SEP. 1945
The order from U.S. military caused Iwaya to shut down until the permission of peace industry
was sanctioned in Nov.1945.
NOV. 1945
By utilizing the remaining of the raw materials, Iwaya started producing lighter,
pen and heater etc.
AUG. 1947
With the resumption of export and import business, mechanical toy manufacturing was
started again.
MAR. 1952
To meet the increase of the overseas demand, production was shifted into toy field entirely.
SEP. 1955
Established (KK) Iwaya Seisakusho as Toy sales company.
MAR. 1962
Entered into a contract with Victor Company of Japan, Limited (JVC) to start manufacturing
electrical equipment.
MAY. 1963
Iwaya Seisakusho (i.e. Limited Partnership) and I (KK) Iwaya Seisakusho were merged.
JUN. 1965
Mr. Keikichi Iwaya received a Medal with Yellow Ribbon from the Prime Minister for his
contribution towards the furtherance of mechanical toy exportation.
APR. 1970
Mr. Keikichi Iwaya had The Decoration of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays for many
years of service in metal toy business.
NOV. 1970
Reinforced concrete three-story building (approx. 4,421u) and warehouse were constructed.
JUN. 1971
From 1964 to 1971 (total 8 times), the company received commendation for contribution towards
export.
JUL. 1973
With the business diversification, company name was changed from (KK) Iwaya Seisakusho to
Iwaya Kabushikikaisha(=KK)
DEC. 1980
Reinforced concrete three-story office (approx. 770u) and warehouse were constructed.
APR. 1982
Change of executive was proceed.

The 60th anniversary of the founding of the company came around and started a direct sales

Participated in the International Tokyo Toy Show for the first time.
JUN. 1984
Mr. Keikichi Iwaya passed away.
The prime minister appointed him dignity of 6th.
MAY. 1985
Proceeded CI (Corporate Identity)
Company name was changed to Iwaya Corporation.
NOV. 1986
Set up a sales office in Taito Ward to start domestic sales.
MAY. 1987
Provided technical support to Sing Yip Toys Mfy. Ltd. in China. Started manufacturing
in China.
FEB. 1991
EEntered into a contract with Canon Inc to start manufacturing electrical equipment.
MAY. 1993
Entered into business relations with SEGA Enterprises Corporation.
JAN. 1995
Entered into business relations with Sony Creative Products Inc.
JUL. 1996
Became a member of Cooperation of Toy Manufactures' Cooperatives in Tokyo.
OCT. 1998
Start producing computer devices in cooperation with Fujitsu Pasocon Systems (literalized).
APR. 1999
Mr. Hirokatsu Iwaya passed away.
Executive was changed.
FEB. 2002
Participated in the American International Toy Fair in N.Y. for the first time.
MAY. 2003
The 80th anniversary of the founding of the company came around.
NOV. 2003
Developed "IP Robot Phone" through technical cooperation of Tachi Lab of the University
of Tokyo.

DLaunched Scale Model "Super Sound" series to join the hobby market.

Participated in the Hong Kong Toys & Games Fair for the first time.

Launched "Super Sound Premium" series to join the market of metal die-cast scale model.

Became a member of Tokyo Toy & Doll Wholesalers Cooperative Association.

Participated in the All Japan Plastic model R/C Show

Started Environmental Activities such as tree-planting, Carbon Offset.
